Progression

PROGRESSION

Studying on the UAL Art Foundation course has allowed me to explore and develop a wide variety of techniques which have expanded my knowledge in many areas of Art and Design. This has particularly helped me with progression from A-level to Level 3/4 - Allowing me to take the next step to University.

When beginning this course, I had only studied Fine Art at school, but after selecting the initial pathways of Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles and Visual Communication, I soon realised that I was particularly interested in manipulating materials and colours and creating textures. This led to me specialising in the Fashion and Textiles pathway.

Following on from this I began to select Universities - I applied to Manchester Metropolitan University, Nottingham Trent University, Bath Spa University and Falmouth University, receiving interviews from all 5.

This led to my portfolio preparation. I was a little unsure to begin with, and I found it difficult to know which samples to keep and how to lay out the pages, but I soon realised that I had plenty of pieces that showed a huge range of skills ranging from life drawing to mixed media textile pieces.

I received unconditional offers from all 5 universities, and have firmed my place to study Textiles and Business studies at Brighton University. I am really excited to learn and develop new skills through the use of knit, weave and print!

We now are heading into our Final Major Project (FMP) and I am really excited to begin the project and have the ability to create work from my own brief.
